Herzzeit II: You are the second self
‘You are my second self’ - Ingeborg Bachmann must have shouted these words to her lover Paul Celan in her mind. The two poets were united by an unquenchable love that was doomed to failure in the harsh reality of everyday life. Their legendary correspondence bears witness to the incompatibility of their love for each other and the fulfilment of it. Questions about the identity of the ‘I’ in the love for the other person arise, but also questions about the ‘why’ of the failure of this love. Our two consecutive scenic concerts deal with precisely this topic.
