Bloomers and Doomers: Design positions on dealing with AI

Sophia Krasomil and Florian Mecklenburg will speak about their experiences and perspectives as designers at the intersection of digital technologies and contemporary visual aesthetics. They will start the conversation with an interactive lecture presenting their research on future scenarios related to artificial intelligence. Drawing from the contrasting viewpoints of "Bloomers" and "Doomers", two terms originating from meme culture representing different outlooks on the future, they will collectively examine various AI phenomena. Through a collaborative discussion, they will explore the potential impacts of these phenomena on our society and creative endeavors.

Florian Mecklenburg lives in Berlin and, as a designer and art director, develops visual strategies for self-initiated and collaborative projects at the intersection of graphic design, publishing and moving image. As co-founder of the research platform NXS World and lecturer in visual communication at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, he teaches, researches and experiments on creative positions in dealing with contemporary visual culture and digital media.

Sophia Krasomil is a freelance graphic designer who lives and works in Hamburg. Her work is primarily focussed on art and (club) culture. She specialises in experimenting with digital media and explores the use of artificial intelligence in her designs. She offers various workshop formats on this topic and last year held a teaching position at the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg. She also works as a freelancer at Shortnotice Studio.

The lecture will be held in German and/or English.
