Its history and current artistic commentaries from the University of the Arts Bremen
The Nordische Kunsthochschule (NKH) was not only the only newly founded art academy in Germany during the Nazi regime, but was also regarded as the most important cultural project of the National Socialists in northern Germany. The history of the NKH is of great regional and national relevance for contemporary history research, yet it remains virtually unknown to this day.
In 2021, after intensive research by students in the Integrated Design and Fine Arts degree programmes, the prototype of a publication on the history of the NKH was created. In order to continue this research.
In 2024, international students and alumni of the Fine Arts and Integrated Design programmes will use contemporary artistic positions to comment on the history of the NKH and shed light on the historical environment of National Socialist cultural policy in Bremen and its effects, which are still visible today.
