New sound spaces in the concert hall of the HfK Bremen
3D loudspeaker system is inaugurated at the HfK Bremen / Concert with Natasha Barrett on 11.12.2023A press release from Jens Fischer
A new 3D sound system with 20 loudspeakers on the walls and ceiling has been installed in the concert hall of Bremen University of the Arts (HfK) on Dechanatstraße. This allows sounds and noises to be moved around the room and creates an immersive concert experience. The audience is in the middle of the music in a new way.
In the 2023/24 academic year, a total of three workshops and concerts with renowned artists will take place at the HfK Bremen to present and explore the "New Sound Spaces in the Concert Hall". The HfK project "We Dig It!", which deals with innovative teaching, learning, concert and exhibition spaces for art and music, has invited composer Natasha Barrett to kick off the series on December 11, 2023. She explores new technologies and experimental approaches to sound across a broad spectrum of contemporary music, including concert works, sound installations in public spaces and interactive multimedia music. For example, Natasha Barrett transforms audio recordings from various cities or nature into surreal and abstract sound scenes. She will create her compositions at a mixing desk in the middle of the hall, surrounded by visitors.
François J. Bonnet will be a guest at the Dechanatstrasse concert hall on January 15, 2024. The French-Swiss composer, author and theorist has been Director of the French music research institute INA GRM since 2018. In April 2024, Ludger Brümmer will continue the "New Sound Spaces in the Concert Hall" series. On April 22, 2024, the professor of composition with digital media at the Trossingen University of Music and director of the Hertz Laboratory at the ZKM Karlsruhe will present his work.
The portrait concerts begin at 8 pm in the concert hall at Dechanatstraße 13-15, admission is free. The events are part of the "Electroacoustic Concerts" series organized by the Atelier Neue Musik.
