Assistance and Funding Opportunities

The financial aid and funding opportunities at the University of the Arts Bremen (HfK) are generally divided into two areas: the promotion of teaching and student projects, and the support of studies in terms of equal opportunities, talent development, and assistance in financial emergencies.

Funding pools have been established to support teaching and study projects, which are awarded through a competitive application process. The primary goal is to strengthen and further develop the profile of teaching and studies in a future-oriented way. These funds are generally financed annually from the university’s core budget.

In contrast, other types of financial aid focus on promoting equal opportunities, providing emergency assistance, or supporting talented students. These funds are not distributed through a competitive process, but instead, a growing number of students in need compete for very limited resources. The HfK is not permitted to finance this type of aid from its core budget and relies on donations.

Funding Opportunities for Student Projects
The University of the Arts Bremen (HfK) supports the initiatives and commitment of its students in realizing projects, artistic and design-related work, and musical activities through the university’s central fund for student projects.
This fund is open to all enrolled students at HfK.
In addition, the Heinz Arnold Bockmeyer Travel Grant was created to encourage students to leave their studios and ateliers, discover the world beyond, and further develop their ideas and visions outside their comfort zones. The grant supports travel projects by students and alumni of the Fine Arts, Integrated Design, and Digital Media programs at HfK Bremen.

Financial Support for Studies
The University of the Arts Bremen has established partnerships and secured donations to provide scholarships that promote equal opportunities, support talent, and assist students in financial distress. These include the Korcak Scholarship from the Janusz Korczak Foundation Bremen, the Deutschlandstipendium, and the Social Fund.
These opportunities are available to all enrolled students at HfK.

Funding Opportunities for Teaching
With the establishment of internal university funds, the University of the Arts Bremen actively supports and strengthens teaching. Through three main funds, it supports teaching projects and events in the areas of Innovative Teaching, Research and Development including Publication Projects, and Interdisciplinary Projects.
Additionally, departmental budgets have been established for public outreach, collaborations with national universities, and events.
These funds and budgets are available to all full-time faculty members at HfK.

Your Donation!

Many students at the University of the Arts Bremen (HfK) finance their studies through part-time jobs, concerts, or family support. When these sources unexpectedly disappear, students can quickly face financial hardship – endangering their studies and future careers.

To address this, HfK has established the Social Fund, collecting donations to support students in financial emergencies. In addition, HfK encourages and supports student initiatives and projects in the fields of art, design, and music (especially as part of final projects) through the Central Fund for Student Projects, commonly referred to as the “Material Fund”in daily university life.

If you would like to support HfK students, any donation – large or small – is greatly appreciated!
