Often referred to as “the big sister” of the violin, the viola is an indispensable part of the orchestral sound, and its peculiar, melancholic tone is particularly touching. The focus of studying viola at HfK Bremen is the search for a rich, deep and personal viola sound, which will help students better express themselves through music. Studying at the HfK Bremen prepares students for a career as professional musicians: through intensive work with major teachers and accompanists, audition opportunities at public studio concerts and internal class auditions, participation in university orchestra projects and collaboration with fellow students in various chamber music formations. All aspects of solo literature for viola as well as the important role of the viola part in the orchestral repertoire are taken into account in the course.
