This course is all about mark making in the context of figurative drawing.
How can scratchy, airy, blotchy, angular, thick or fluid marks convey a weight, a texture, a mood or even a whole artistic attitude?
We will explore drawing with brush and ink, charcoal and other dry and wet tools. Students will become acquainted with various mark making languages and learn to make their images come alive through inventive use of line, touch, trace, smudge and erasure.
We will work extensively from observation, imagination and memory.
The course will be comprised of many practical and experimental drawing exercises and complimented by discussions, excursions and readings.
We will start the with an exciiting joint workshop on June 2nd 3rd led by both Illustratiion and Drawing instructors!
Students can take both illustration and drawing courses, as they are on seperate days.
