Warten/Garten
WARTEN/GARTEN has been growing on the former railroad tracks in front of Speicher XI since 2021. As a garden for the University of the Arts Bremen, it serves as a space for listening, a platform for encounters, a living space for rewilding and a studio for artistic experiments.
W/GARTEN was initiated during the COVID-19 lockdown and replaced the traditional seminar rooms by promoting care and patience through the nurturing of plants. This space embeds participants in a rich web of organisms and transforms their understanding of artistic and collective work.
W/GARTEN explores questions such as: What is a garden? What forms can it take? How have gardens been conceived in the history of art? What transcultural entanglements can we discover? The project explores the soil of the garden, uncovers layers of history and reimagines relationships with non-human beings.
W/GARTEN maintains networks between people, plants and other agents that reflect the microclimate and history of Bremen. Since its inception, the garden has become an essential part of many workshops and seminars that promote shared learning and discovery.
