Jorge Caro and Lisa Schmäling win first prize at international competition
VI North International Music CompetitionJorge Caro and Lisa Schmäling, HfK students in the classes of Patrick O'Byrne and Almut Cordes, received the first prize as a piano duo in the chamber music category of the VI North International Music Competition in Fall 2020 (based in Stockholm, Sweden). The North International Music Competition is an online music competition for musicians around the world.
With a program for two pianos composed of works by Soler, Schumann and Guastavino, they competed against participants from 35 countries. Jorge Caro and Lisa Schmäling were selected by an international jury of eleven.
As soloists, both have already won prizes at national and international piano competitions (including "Jugend musiziert" and the International Piano Competition "F. Chopin" in South America). They founded their duo in 2020 and have since given concerts in South America and Europe. Both pianists are currently studying at the HfK Bremen and receive chamber music lessons from Prof. O'Byrne.
