Climate Protection Management

The aim of the climate protection management is to implement measures of the climate protection concept of the University of the Arts Bremen through systematic, professional and content-related support and to integrate and strengthen climate protection aspects at all levels in the processes, procedures and projects within the Bremen University of the Arts. The climate protection goals set by the City of Bremen (KEP 2020, link) set the standard for reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 40% by 2020 compared to 1990 and by at least 80% to 95% in the long term by 2050.

The core of the climate protection concept is the catalogue of measures, which contains targets and recommendations for climate protection in the fields of action. This will be updated and dynamically adapted and thus serve as a methodological framework for the implementation of the entire climate protection concept.

The University of the Arts Bremen has established a project position in climate protection management for the systematic development and implementation of climate protection management. In addition, the project position in climate protection management at the HfK takes on the special role of networking all four universities in the state of Bremen in order to exchange experiences and learn from each other. The tasks essentially include networking activities between the higher education institutions and reporting as well as public relations work on climate protection activities.

With the National Climate Initiative, the Federal Environment Ministry has been initiating and funding numerous projects that contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions since 2008. Its programmes and projects cover a broad spectrum of climate protection activities: From the development of long-term strategies to concrete assistance and investment support measures. This diversity is a guarantee for good ideas. The National Climate Initiative contributes to anchoring climate protection on the ground. It benefits consumers as well as businesses, municipalities and educational institutions.

The project entitled: "KSI: Climate protection management for the implementation of the integrated climate protection concept of the Bremen University of the Arts and the networking of climate protection activities between the higher education institutions in the state of Bremen" is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) under the funding code 03K12480 on the basis of a decision by the German Bundestag. Duration of the project: 04/2020-12/2023. Further information can be found on the websites of the BMU and the Projektträger Jülich (PtJ).
