Fine Arts (Postgraduate programme 'Meisterschüler:innen')

The one-year postgraduate programme 'Meisterschüler:innen' in Fine Arts is intended to accompany and support the students on their path to independence. Supervised by a professor, it not least serves to deepen one's own artistic attitude. This further development takes on a different character due to the formal change in status of the students. The master-class students are no longer art students, but artists engaged in studying.
The "Meisterschüler:innenstudium" includes the independent planning and implementation of a large group exhibition. In addition to the artistic conception, the master-class students' tasks also include the development of communication strategies, press work and the search for sponsors. The final examination is a lecture about the year participants have devoted to their studies, which is intended to illustrate the positioning and development of the artists as they engaged in their studies.
Every summer there is an exhibition for all master class students of a year. These deal with the reality and working methods of a larger art institution. The financing and realisation of the exhibition catalog are in the hands of the graduates of the programme. On the occasion of this exhibition, the Karin Hollweg Prize, the most highly endowed art funding prize at German art universities with €18,000, will be awarded.
