Applying for the study programme Digital Media (B.A.)
The degree programme Bachelor Digital Media is a joint offer from the University of the Arts Bremen and the University of Bremen. Located between the fields, the media design courses at the HfK Bremen and the media informatics courses at the University of Bremen receive impulses from the arts, design, theory and new technologies.
Application
The application period for the winter semester 2025/26 is from February 1st to May 15th, 2025.
Applicants for the study programme Digital Media Bachelor/Major in Media Design can do so during the application period via the HfK Bremen application portal.
We will then inform you via email about the next steps and the dates in the application process.
Entrance exam
The next step on the way to a place on the Digital Media/Media Design course is the entrance exam.
The heart of the application is your portfolio with self-made, meaningful, creative and artistic work samples. These are submitted exclusively in the form of digital or digitised (e.g. photographed) works. We recommend paying attention to high quality when digitising your work. However, the quality of digitisation is not evaluated. If necessary, provide the materials with references to works (websites, videos) on cloud services (Nextcloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) or video platforms (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.). The works can come from digital but also from non-digital areas (e.g. interaction design, interface design, generative design, new media art, web design, video, animation, typography, photography, drawing, concept work). If possible, work should be submitted in common file formats such as PDF, HTML, JPG, PNG, GIV, MOV, AVI, MPEG. Works that were realised in interactive or generative formats (e.g. Unity, Processing or Unreal Engine) should be submitted as screenshots or screen captures and as original files. A CV in tabular form and a list of submitted work must be enclosed. Each work can also be accompanied by short explanations.
The work is uploaded to a web interface. You will receive further information promptly by email.
The second part of the entrance examination takes place based on the results of the submitted work. The entrance examination consists of a homework assignment and a professional discussion with the examination committee.
If you have passed the entrance exam, you will receive notification of this by email and will take part in the allocation process for available study places.
If you receive a rejection letter, it remains to be seen whether the University of the Arts can allocate you a place in the follow-up procedure. Be patient, we guarantee that no study place will remain vacant!
