The dynamics of creative diversity

The graduates of the Digital Media and Integrated Design courses at the University of the Arts (HfK) Bremen are hosting their annual exhibition from November 15 to 24, 2024. 46 young artists will be showing their Bachelor's/Master's degree works and uniting two important buildings of the participating faculties. The exhibition will connect the Auditorium, Galerie Flut and Nebenflut in the Speicher XI 8 building with Hall 1 of the new Speicher XI A building.

During the opening ceremony of the annual exhibition on November 15, 2024, from 6 p.m., with live music and performances, the Frese Design Prize, endowed with 10,000 euros, will also be awarded in the auditorium. It has been awarded to young designers at the HfK Bremen by a jury since 2014 and helps to make graduates and their work visible nationally and internationally, to promote their creative commitment and to support their career start.
 

The students' experimental and interdisciplinary search for individual forms of expression, innovative design approaches and creative solutions is demonstrated during the annual exhibition in the diversity typical of the HfK. A broad spectrum of artistic media can be experienced: film, photography, graphics, illustration, installation, fashion, performance, product design, sculpture and video. In their works, the graduates refer to personal stories, family archives or theoretical works to talk about important current issues - such as exploring one's own identity through art and design or reflecting on the possibilities of connecting with nature as a human being. Other works deal with gender-based violence, racism, social norms and the importance of public spaces for democracy.
 

Working with such a large number of different projects makes the development of a uniform exhibition architecture an important task for the curators Elizaveta Kovalenko and Liudmila Savelyeva. They were looking for innovative ways to present art and involve the public. For example, reading zones have been integrated into the exhibition this year, where visitors can delve deeper into the works and purchase publications by the graduates. There will also be guided tours and artist talks to break up the space as a rigid exhibition area. In terms of sustainability, many materials from previous exhibitions will be reused.
